HIRING - Supervisor

Job Title: Working Shift Supervisor – Ice Cream Shop (Evenings & Weekends)
Location: Shady Side, MD




Schedule: Full‑time, 40 hours per week, primarily evenings and weekends (seasonal only: Memorial Day to Labor Day)

About the role

We are a busy neighborhood ice cream shop in Shady Side looking for a reliable, hands‑on Working Shift Supervisor to lead a team of teenage employees. No prior food service or supervisor experience is required – we will train the right person. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys working with teens, staying busy on their feet, and creating a fun, friendly environment for customers.

 

What you’ll do

• Lead the shift while working alongside the team (serving, register, cleaning)

• Assign positions, give clear instructions, and keep teenagers on task

• Provide friendly, fast service to every customer

• Open and/or close the shop using checklists (cash counts, cleaning, locking up)

• Handle basic customer questions and resolve small issues on the spot

• Monitor cleanliness and complete daily and nightly cleaning tasks

• Make sure health and safety rules are followed (handwashing, gloves, food handling)

• Restock supplies and let the owner/manager know when items are running low

 

What we’re looking for

No previous food service or supervisor experience is required. We are looking for someone who is:

• Responsible, mature, and comfortable leading & scheduling a small team of teenagers

• Amazing communication skills

• Able to work a consistent schedule of evenings and weekends (seasonal position – Memorial > Labor Day)

• Reliable with dependable transportation to and from the shop

• Comfortable handling cash and using a point‑of‑sale system (we will train)

• Willing to jump in wherever needed and do physical work (on your feet, cleaning, light lifting)

• Inventory management

• Physical demands – job requires several hours on your feet and light (10lb) lifting

• Friendly and patient with both customers and staff

• Background and reference checks are required

 

Experience working with teens (coaching, camp counselor, childcare, youth groups, teacher etc.) is a plus but not required.

Hours and compensation

• Full‑time: approximately 40 hours per week

• Primarily evenings and weekends, with additional hours during busy periods

• Hourly pay: $17.00 - $20.00+

• Performance bonuses available
